Artist Video: Zhang Yu
January 18, 2021

The latest instalment in our new artist videos series focuses on contemporary Chinese artist Zhang Yu. In exchange for a paintbrush, Zhang Yu uses his index finger as the sole tool of creation, fully exploring the relationship between self-identity, time and existence. His work challenges the history of art, aiming to “create something that never existed before.” Zhang Yu is the second of four artists we are featuring in a series of video interviews from our current group exhibition “Brushless” at Alisan Aberdeen. “Brushless” features four internationally acclaimed artists whose practices have revolutionised Chinese ink painting with the use of their various tools and media. The exhibition remains open from Wednesday to Saturday, from 10am to 6pm at Alisan Aberdeen till Feb 27th, 2021. If you would like to see the artwork in person, please feel free to drop by.
