“HANDS UP” 2CHOEY’s First Solo Exhibition in Hong Kong

“Raise Hands” in the air is an interesting action, there are many meanings behind. This is a simple action that everyone do and know in they life. We called “Hands Up”. It could be surrender or signify assent. In the other hand, it could be participation, want or against somethings. 

2CHOEY, an artist born and raise in Thailand, who plays artworks with hands reinterpret pop culture. This is his first solo exhibition in Hong Kong, 2CHOEY trying to explore the hidden meaning behind “HANDS UP”, to investigate the social phenomenon, the communication beyond languages, to evaluate current popular cultures and issues. “Put your hands up” are not just a superficial message, but also there is hidden agenda which represents morality and fearless, and it is something that worth reflection. 

There will be 50 pieces of artwork in this exhibition, including different medium such as acrylic on canvas, hand drafts and skate decks. 2CHOEY manipulates with many well-known characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Pinocchio, Astro Boy and Smurfs, etc. Giving them the “hands up” gesture, to magnify the craving for freedom in a sarcastic way. A series of 20 piece of black and white hand drafts, showing the delicacy of the artist skills and thinking process. 
 
In the exhibition, the “main cast” will be “Don't cheat on my bananas (bob)”, by using flowers on the paintings as symbolizing for hope, 2CHOEY putting it on the face of the character, paired it with bananas to symbolize gun and sexuality. This character will be appearing on canvas painting and also as 2CHOEY's first art toy, extending the idea from 2D to 3D.
