Screening: Gregg Bordowitz’s Fast Trip, Long Drop in conjunction with Donald Moffett: NATURE CULT
June 9, 2021

We are delighted to invite you on Thursday June 10, 2021, at 7:30 PM at Whitestone Hong Kong for the screening of Gregg Bordowitz’s 'Fast Trip, Long Drop' (1993, 54 min), as part of the public programme of our "Donald Moffett: Nature Cult" exhibition.

The early work of Donald Moffett was galvanised by the New York gay community’s response to government inaction to the AIDS pandemic during the Reagan and Bush administrations (1981-1989 and 1989-1993). Like Moffett, Borowitz and an entire generation of artists at the time developed artistic practices to voice out their frustrations with the government’s policy, the medical establishment and media coverage. In the case of Borowitz's darkly humorous and experimental filmmaking, his critique explores a kaleidoscopic field of references including his Jewish heritage and the joys and sorrows of political involvement in AIDS activism; represented through footage portraying his autobiographical musings on his daily existence with HIV and exhilarating found footage. Predating our era of instagramable self-portraiture and self-designed subjectivities, Fast Trip, Long Drop is a masterpiece of a more honest and intimate 1990s video making, which represented the micro-political self as a medium to question macro-political realities.

Fast Trip, Long Drop (1993, 54 min) by Gregg Bordowitz will screen Thursday, June 10 at 7:00 PM at White Stone Gallery Hong Kong, 8/F H Queens, Queens Road 80 Queen's Road Central. Join us after the screening for a drink and a follow up discussion with the exhibition's public programme curator Inti Guerrero.
